Saturday, May 3 -- 83rd Annual Running of the Virginia Gold Cup, Virginia’s preeminent steeplechase event, at Great Meadow off I-66 at The Plains exit, take Rt. 245 south to signage for race. Gates open at 10 a.m., pre-race entertainment starts at 11 a.m., first of seven races begin at 12:15 p.m. General admission car passes are $75 in advance, $85 week of race, allows entry of car and up to six occupants. Mobile health van offers free blood pressure checks, bone density and body mass index measurements and other information.

The Loudoun Summer Music Fest is back for its 5th season, bringing your favorite bands from the 70s, 80s, and 90s to perform live on the lawn at Belmont Country Club. This weekly evening concert is casual, intimate, and family friendly. Dance directly in front of the stage, or spread out your blanket and lawn chairs and give the kids room to play. The KidsFest features entertainment including moon bounces, face painting, and other fun activities. Local food is available for purchase, as well as beer and wine. Please, no pets or tailgate parties. Event held rain or shine.

6th annual Good Shepherd Alliance Golf Tournament at Brambleton Golf Course. Register at www.loudounhomeless.org. Registration fee of $125 includes green fee, golf cart and post tournament luncheon. Proceeds benefit GSA’s program of aid and advocacy for homeless families in Loudoun County.

Saturday, May 10 -- America’s Polo Cup at Morven Park in Leesburg, 2-9 p.m. Events include polo, a military air demonstration involving parachute jump, flyovers and helicopters, plus fashion, wine, food and music, ending with a fireworks display. Huey Lewis and News will perform prior to the fireworks display; opera singer Vittorio Grigolo and the folk band No Speed Limit also will perform on Saturday’s program.

2008-05-15 Drive on the Dulles Greenway
Thursday, May 15 -- Drive on the Dulles Greenway and your toll goes to charity. Tolls collected on that date will be donated to six charities: March of Dimes, Loudoun Chapter of the Special Olympics, Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter, Fresh Air/Full Care, Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and the Dulles Greenway Citizenship Award. The two previous annual drives have contributed almost $500,000 to charity.
