Ground broken for Russell Branch extension

  • Ground was broken Tuesday, April 22, for an extension of Russell Branch Parkway west from Loudoun County Parkway, a segment proffered by the developers of One Loudoun, a planned business development on the south side of Route 7 along the west side of Loudoun County Parkway.

The Russell Branch Parkway extension westward from Loudoun County Parkway will link to the portion of Russell Branch currently in use eastward from Ashburn Village Boulevard along the south side of Ashbrook Commons Shopping Center. The link now formally under construction is eight-tenths of a mile. When complete, Russell Branch will offer an alternative to Route 7 between Loudoun County Parkway and Ashburn Village Boulevard.

Congressional primaries set for June 10

  • The State Board of Elections has ordered a dual primary among Republican candidates and Democratic candidates seeking the nominations of their parties as candidates on the November election ballot for Virginia's 10th District seat in Congress, a position long held by Congressman Frank Wolf.

The primary is set for Tuesday, June 10, and includes all Loudoun County precincts, along with all those throughout the 10th District.

The Democratic primary will be between Judy Feder, who ran unsuccessfully against Wolf in the 2006 election, and Mike Turner of Waterford. Turner supported Feder in 2006 but offered himself as a candidate late last year.
